Mastering Memory

Memory is synonomous with learning and greatly meallable. Students rely on their ability to encode and retrieve information to learn all academic content taught in school. Educators will learn to embed the science of memory and learning into their lesson plans, thus improving the efficacy of their teaching and academic performance of their students. This short PD makes for a powerful combination when students take the course on Mastering Memory for Educators, which complements this PD.

Course Modules

This course consists of ~8 hours of self-led asynchronous e-learning, which are complemented with live synchronous office hours to support learners. Learners are encouraged to maintain a pace of one module per week to be in sync with each other to promote meaningful peer discussion and collaboration and to benefit from scheduled office hours and webinars.

En este módulo los profesores aprenden los rasgos comunes/ principios básicos de los/as estudiantes exitosos: entendiendo los aspectos claves de la arquitectura humana del aprendizaje; estrategias efectivas y técnicas para el aprendizaje; y cómo los estudiantes pueden auto monitorearse y controlar su propio aprendizaje.

A pesar de las convincentes investigaciones que apoyan la eficacia de las técnicas y estrategias para mejorar la habilidad del/la estudiante para acumular conocimiento, estos son ampliamente desconocidos por los/las estudiantes. En cambio, la mayoría de los/las estudiantes confían en estrategias inefectivas para aprender información que llevan, si acaso, a un aprendizaje superficial.

El módulo Dominando la Memoria es integral y está dividido en dos partes. El primer módulo se enfoca en dominar las técnicas demostradas para facilitar la codificación de la información aprendida.

El segundo módulo se enfoca en dominar estrategias de recuperación, que son herramientas poderosas para mejorar el aprendizaje. Estas son aún más efectivas cuando son complementadas con las técnicas que cubrimos en la primera parte del módulo Dominando la Memoria.
