COGx led a compelling workshop at the LatinX EdTech Summit during the L’ATTITUDE Conference, addressing the critical need for educational reform. The session, titled Transforming our Educational System,
ocused on the importance of shifting our educational system from one that prioritizes grades and time-bound metrics to one that fosters mastery and genuine learning.
The workshop highlighted concerning statistics, including the fact that 57% of college entrants in the US are first-generation students, yet only 44% graduate. Community colleges, which now enroll nearly half of all incoming college students, face similar challenges: while 80% of students aspire to earn a degree, fewer than 1 in 6 achieve this goal within six years. The session explored how these students, burdened by debt, are often unprepared for the workforce, where only 1 in 10 recruiters believe a college degree reflects the necessary skills for available roles.
L’ATTITUDE Conference, which attracted over 6,000 participants, provided a platform to discuss the intersection of education and the Latino experience, emphasizing the urgent need to ensure learning, not just schooling, prepares students for success in today’s world.
