Our programs incorporate the scientific principles of human learning into our instructional design. Learning is active, engaging, collaborative, and application-based. Invigorate your lesson planning with science-based tools that will enable your learner's to master what you teach. Carefully designed program elements and ongoing guidance and support empowers educators and learners to apply what they've learned.
Evidence-based Instructional Design
COGx Program Leaders
Program Leaders are assigned to support your learning journey. They monitor the Program and respond to your questions. You can also contact your Program Leader using the Inbox section in the left-most navigation menu.
Priming Activities
Priming quizzes and open-ended interrogatories are used to get learners to think about the subject matter they are about to learn.
Retrieval Practice
To foster durable, flexible, and enduring learning, we apply retrieval strategies throughout the program, including elaboration, spacing, self-testing, and interleaving.
Video Micro-Lessons
Introductory video lessons are delivered by Program Leaders, while topics within each module are delivered by subject matter experts.
Classroom Application Guides
Takeaway posters are provided throughout the modules to guide the effective implementation of the concepts covered.
Peer-Based Feedback & Reflection
Learners receive and provide peers with anonymized feedback on lesson plan application assignments for deeper learning.
Discussion Boards
Each module ends with a Discussion Forum, which we highly encourage you to participate in with your peers. This is a chance to share ideas, collaborate, and provide and receive valuable peer feedback.
Alumni Practitioner’s Platform
Program alumni (Science of Learning Practitioners) can join an online platform to share resources and strategies for ongoing application of concepts and guidance.
Application Hour
Coaching and collaboration sessions will be held during the program to allow participants to clarify any questions about the program content.

Workforce
Misconceptions about teaching and learning based on intuition have led to an epidemic of disengagement in schools (Evans, 2023), higher education (Chronicle of Higher Ed, 2022; NY Times, 2022), and the workplace (Society for HR Management, 2023).

Teaching
The current approach to teaching is often disconnected from how students learn (Hynes, 2014). A global crisis is emerging of learners of all ages being unprepared for future employment and prosperity (UNICEF, 2022), increasing achievement and opportunity gaps (UNESCO, 2023) with “uneducated, uninspired, and unskilled” learners (UNICEF, 2022).

Learning
Learning is a scientific process, and for students to learn optimally they must be taught (Bjork et al., 2013: Dunlosky 2021). This is true regardless of cognitive abilities and disposition towards learning. Students often use ineffective techniques such as highlighting and re-reading, with limited success. Such strategies are rooted in the misconception about learning (Bjork & Bjork, 2011).
Customized Programs for Partner Organizations
Our programs consist of a mix of self-led asynchronous e-learning, which are complemented with live synchronous group collaboration, assignments and application hours to support participants. We maintain a pace suitable to each partner organization to be in sync with each other to promote meaningful peer discussion and collaboration and to benefit from scheduled office hours.
