Metacognition & Feedback
Once students learn to amass knowledge effectively, they are ready to become self-directed learners. In this course, educators learn to develop their students’ awareness of how their learning occurs and their ability to monitor and manage their learning behaviors. This is the foundation for learning independently, effectively, and efficiently. This two-module course is designed to help educators develop their students’ metacognition through practical strategies and application guides that foster metacognitive awareness and deliberate practice.
As research suggests, effective feedback, formative assessments, and peer-based learning are among the most effective ways a student can learn information deeply and demonstrate transfer. Alongside application guides and technology tools, educators will master the science behind these concepts and how to apply them with fidelity in the classroom.
This course consists of ~15 hours of self-led asynchronous e-learning, which are complemented with live synchronous office hours to support learners. Learners are encouraged to maintain a pace of one module per week to be in sync with each other to promote meaningful peer discussion and collaboration and to benefit from scheduled office hours and webinars.
